Coastal Track & Field Set to Compete in Raleigh and Rock Hill

The Chanticleers will send six student-athletes to Raleigh and the rest of the squad willbe in Rock Hill

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men's and women's track & field teams will send representatives to both the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C., and the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C. Six student-athletes will be competing Friday night in Raleigh while the rest of the Coastal Carolina track & field team will head to Rock Hill for a two-day event.

The Coastal Carolina women's track & field team was recently ranked 78th in the USTFCCCA 2014 Preseason Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Team Computer Rankings. Sophomore Jessica Gelibert 's time of 58.39 in the 400 meter hurdles at last week's Shamrock Invitational ranks second in the nation this season. The women's 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Gelibert, Camille Hurley, Teka Simpson and Christal Green turned in the fourth fastest time in the nation this season with a 3:37.37 at the Shamrock Invitational.

Gelibert along with men's track & field member Reggie Nelson were recently named the Big South Conference's Women's Track Athlete of the Week and Men's Field Athlete of the Week, respectively.

The Winthrop Invitational will feature 24 teams with more than 900 athletes at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Complex. The competition will help prepare the Chanticleers for the Big South Conference Championships, which will also be held at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Complex in April. Coastal's first competitors will take to the field at 2 p.m. on Friday in the hammer throw. The final event, the 4x400 relay, is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The Raleigh Relays run Friday and Saturday but Coastal will only be in action on Friday. Ryan Beckley will kick things off in the 1500 meters at 6:15 p.m. Joseph Keitt will follow in the men's steeplechase at 7:28 p.m. The first two women in action will be Shelby Nicosia and Emily Marchini who will take the track in the 1500 meters at 7:38 p.m. Letitia Saayman will close out the action for the women at 9:12 p.m. in the 5000 meters and Evan Niciphor will close out the men's side at 9:45 p.m. in the 5000 meters.
