CONWAY - Coastal Carolina senior hurdles star Desmond Wallace has been named the Big South Conference’s Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, the league announced Thursday.

Wallace, who is undefeated this year in the 110-meter high hurdles, is the first Chanticleer to earn the weekly track award in the 2016 outdoor season.

He currently ranks tied for third in NCAA D-I in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 13.87. Wallace got his 2016 outdoor season off to a rollicking start, earning a first-place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles at Battle of the Beaches XI with a time of 14.28.

Two weeks later at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational XX, he scored another first-place finish in the event, taking the top spot in the finals with a mark of 13.87. The Columbia, S.C. native is CCU’s all-time record holder in the 110-meter high hurdles, setting a mark of 13.80 last year.

His record-breaking time in 2015 earned him All-Big South honors and a victory at the Big South Conference Championships. Additionally, he was a 2015 NCAA East Preliminary Round qualifier in the 110-meter high hurdles.

Wallace and the Chanticleers are back in action this Friday and Saturday at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C., as well as at the UNF Spring Break Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla.
