Charlotte, N.C. - Christal Green of the Coastal Carolina University track and field team has been named the Big South Women’s Track Athlete of the Week for her performance in the Coastal Carolina Invitational last week, the league announced today. Green’s award, which is the first for a Chanticleer runner this outdoor season, comes on the heels of the women’s track team being announced the unanimous favorite in the conference preseason poll.
The junior from Columbia, S.C., was one of five Chanticleer runners to turn in a third-place performance at the Coastal Carolina Invitational last week. Green took third place in the 200-meter event, crossing the finish in 24.30.
Joining Green with third place finishes at the CCU Invitational were freshman Leah Fair in the women’s 400m, Alexander Hass in the men’s 400m, Camille Hurley in the women’s 100m hurdles and freshman Kevondre’ Hunt in the men’s 110m hurdles.
Green was previously named the Big South Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week on Dec. 11 after she won the 400m event at the JDL College Kickoff.
The Chanticleers are currently competing in the Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina University. The three-day meet began today and runs through Saturday.
