CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina women's indoor track & field team returns to competition this Friday and Saturday for its first full meet of the season at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, Va.

Fifteen teams will be represented at the meet, including Big South schools Liberty and Radford. Friday's events begin at 5 p.m. with the triple jump and pole vault and conclude with the 300 meters at 8:05 p.m. Other events on the first day include the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles, the 500 and 1000-meter and mile runs, and weight throw.

Coastal, which notched seven top-10 finishes in last year's meet, had a strong showing in its season-opening event at Clemson last month. Senior Erica Peake and freshman Jessica Gelibert both won events, freshman Teka Simpson notched a runner-up finish and the 4x400 relay team also placed second.

A total of 23 Chanticleers are scheduled to compete in Blacksburg, including 11 making their season debuts. Among them are sophomore Letitia Saayman, the reigning Big South champion in the 10,000 meters. Saayman will compete in the 3,000-meter run on Saturday, one of 15 total events in which Coastal athletes are entered. Senior Anjulia Nicholson, who earned All-Big South honors in discus last year in the outdoor season, will compete in the weight throw.

Members of Coastal's men's track & field will also participate unofficially in the meet.
