Campbell Earns Spot on US National Team

DES MOINES, Iowa - Coastal Carolina alumnus Amber Campbell used a personal best throw of 73.03 meters (239-07) on her fifth throw of six at the USA Track & Field Championships this past weekend to earn a spot on the United States National Team that will be heading to Moscow, Russia in August for the IAAF World Championships.
This marks the sixth time Campbell has been named to the US National Team and her fourth trip to the World Championships.
Campbell needed to finish among the top three at the USA Championships to earn a spot on the national team. Heading into her second-to-last throw, Campbell was sitting in fourth place. She unleashed the best throw of her career to move up one spot and earn a trip to Moscow.
Campbell was the defending National Champion in the women’s hammer throw, having won her second USA Outdoor Championship last year before competing in the 2012 London Olympics. She ended her Olympic run as the United States’ top finisher in the event at 13th.
Amanda Bingson (75.73m) won the 2013 National Championship while Jeneva McCall (74.00m) finished second.
Campbell, Bingson and McCall will all head to Moscow August 10-18 for the 2013 IAAF World Championships.
