DES MOINES, Iowa - Freshmen Jordan Entwistle and Jessica Gelibert of the Coastal Carolina track & field team earned silver and bronze medals, respectively, in their events on Saturday at the USA Track & Field Junior Championships. Entwistle used a personal best throw of 65.89 meters (216-02) in the javelin to finish second while Gelibert also turned in a personal best time of 57.29 in the 400 meter hurdles to finish third.
Despite finishing second, Entwistle will be unable to represent Team USA at the Pan American Junior Championships due to the standard distance of 66.50 meters. In order to compete at the Pan American competition all entrants must have achieved the standard mark of 66.50m at some point this year.
Entwistle finished behind William & Mary’s Robert Smutsky who tossed a competition best throw of 69.08 meters (226-08). Entwistle’s previous personal best was 65.78 at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Gelibert blew away her old personal best while finishing third in the 400 meter hurdles. She bested the previous time by .54 seconds. Autumne Franklin, of Harvard, won the event with a time of 57.10 while Jade Miller, also of Harvard, finished second with a time of 57.21.
