Peake Sets School Record in Final Regular Season Meet

Peake's Time in the 400 meters was 1.2 Seconds Faster than the Previous CCU Record

Georgia Tech Invitational Final Results Get Acrobat Reader

ATLANTA - Senior Erica Peake competed for the first time this season in the 400 meters and bested the school record by 1.20 seconds at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Peake won the event and broke Vondeeshia Humphries’ record which was set in 2008. Peake crossed the line in 53.23 seconds.

The men’s 4x400 team also took home a win as sophomore DeAndra Lipscomb, freshman Corey Hackett-Greene, freshman Matthew Lights and freshman Deion Wellington teamed up to cross the line in 3:11.11. The women’s 4x100 team of Peake, sophomore Symphony Thompson, freshman Teka Simpson and sophomore Qwontajah Thompson also placed first with a time of 44.90. The 44.90 is just .07 off the CCU record and is the best time put down by the Chants this season.

Sophomore Reggie Nelson finished third in the men’s high jump with a height of 2.05 meters (6-8.75).

Freshman Jessica Gelibert crossed the line second in the women’s 400 hurdles with a time of 58.28. Sophomore Christina Davis came in 17th in the event with a time of 1:02.77.

The men’s 4x100 team consisting of junior Ronnie Jackson, sophomore Joseph Wilson, Hackett-Greene and sophomore Eric Brown posted a time of 40.97 for a fifth-place finish.

Freshman Jordan Roach and junior Cameron Griggs finished sixth and ninth, respectively, in the men’s discus. Roach posted a distance of 49.78 meters (163-04) while Griggs came in at 48.41 meters (158-10).

Lipscomb led a three-man contigent in the 400 meters as he finished 14th with the second best time of the season by a Chanticleer, 47.64. Wellington came across 19th with a time of 48.36 while Hackett-Greene placed 21st with a time of 48.45.

Q. Thompson placed 14th in the women’s 200 meters while posting a time of 24.81. Simpson came in 19th with a time of 24.91 while freshman Ruby Durham finished 28th with a time of 25.15. Sophomore Camille Hurley finished 16th in the 400 meters with a time of 55.87 while Q. Thompson finished 19th. Thompson posted a time of 56.00.

Lights finished 13th in the men’s 400 hurdles with a time of 53.26 while junior Russel Kanner came across in 15th at 53.85.

Wilson placed 16th in the men’s 200, coming across in 21.52. Jackson came in at 28th with a time of 21.97.

The final Chant in competition was sophomore Joseph Keitt who ran the second-fastest time this season in the men’s 800 while finishing 25th. He posted a time of 1:54.51.

The Chants will return to action May 23-25 at the NCAA Preliminary Round in Greensboro, N.C.
