DURHAM, N.C. - A small contingent of student-athletes from the Coastal Carolina men’s and women’s track & field teams were in action at the Duke Twilight Meet Sunday afternoon. Eight Chants including four men and four women competed in a total of six events. Leading the way for the women were juniors Emily Marchini and Shelby Nicosia who placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 1500 meters. On the men’s side it was Joseph Keitt setting a new season-best in the 1500 meters while placing 18th overall.

Marchini turned in a time of 4:34.82 while Nicosia came across in 4:36.45. Keitt became the first Chant to break the four minute mark this season with a time of 3:59.73.

Junior Cameron Wells and Ryan Beckley competed alongside Keitt in the 1500 while placing 24th and 34th, respectively. Wells was clocked at 4:03.27 while Beckley had a time of 4:16.60.

Beckley was the lone Chant to compete in multiple events as he also placed 25th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.20.

Senior Jessica Dennison turned in a personal-best in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:00.56 while placing seventh.

Freshman LaChelsie Thomas rounded out the women’s performance with a 19th-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.81.

The final Chant in action was freshman Jordan Roach who came just .05 meters away from tying his personal best in the discus with a throw of 50.20 meters (164-08) while finishing fifth.

The Chants will be back in action this weekend, May 10-11, at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
