Gelibert Finishes Fourth in the 400m Hurdles at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Freshman Jessica Gelibert of the Coastal Carolina track & field team finished fourth in the women’s 400 hurdles college championship with a time of 58.84 in the opening event of the day at the Penn Relays. The only student-athletes to finish ahead of her were Evonne Britton of Penn State, who holds the top time in the NCAA Division I rankings, Zalika Dixon of Indiana Tech and Samantha Elliott of Johnson C. Smith.

Both the women’s 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams finished 10th overall and advanced to the College Finals. The 4x100 team of Erica Peake, Symphony Thompson, Teka Simpson and Qwontajah Thompson posted a time of 45.82. Texas A&M, Oregon and LSU finished first, second and third, respectively, in the event. The 4x400 team of Peake, Q. Thompson, Simpson and Gelibert posted a time of 3:41.08. Texas A&M, UTech from Jamaica and Oregon finished one through three in the event.

The lone men’s competitor on day one was Joseph Keitt who finished 10th in the men’s 3000 meter college division with a time of 9:20.20.

The women’s 4x100 team will compete in the College Final on Fri. at 12:55 p.m. while the 4x400 team will compete on Sat. at 5:35 p.m. The Chants have a number of entrants in tomorrow’s events including the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 men’s relay teams.
