Wallace Shatters School Record at Tom Jones Memorial
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -
On Friday afternoon in the Tom Jones Memorial at the University of Florida's Percy Beard Track, Desmond Wallace shattered the Coastal Carolina school record in the men's 110HH, crossing the finish line at 13.68 to snap his own school record of 13.80 and finish first in the prelims.
The redshirt senior is the No. 2 all-time Big South performer in the event, just behind Vincent Wyatt (13.60). Additionally, Wallace ranks No. 9 on the NCAA D-1 list.
Elsewhere in the men's 110HH, Kevondre' Hunt finished fourth and set a new personal best with a time of 14.16 in the prelims. Dee Jennings also had a strong showing in the men's 110HH, finishing seventh with a personal-best time of 14.50 in preliminary action.
Several other new personal-bests were set at the event, as Braylon Wilkerson had a time of 47.76 in the men's 400, Karissa Lunn set a mark of 11.97 in the women's 100-meter dash, and Raven Hamilton had a jump of 1.65m (5-50) to finish fifth in the women's high jump.
A pair of new season-bests were also set, with Imani Boatwright finishing at 2:13.25 in the women's 800-meter dash, and Brandon Johnson finishing eighth in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.10m (23-3.5).
In field action, Samantha Layko finished eighth in the women's hammer with a mark of 53.66m (176-00), Chloe White (40.80m, 173-10) placed fourth in the women's javelin, Brandon Johnson (7.10m, 23-03.50) scored an eighth-place finish in the men's long jump and Ryan Minor (57.10m, 187-04) came in fifth in the men's hammer.
In other action, Devontaye Edwards took third in the men's discus, setting a mark of 52.25m (171-05). Coastal also had two top finishers in the men's javelin, as Robert Castellani (57.89m, 189-11) placed second and Cody Wilde (51.80m, 169-11) finished fourth. Coastal also competed Friday afternoon at the Duke Invitational at Morris Williams Stadium in Durham, N.C., as Jonnay Anthony set a new personal-best in the women's 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line at 58.63.
