School Records Fall at the Tiger Track Classic

AUBURN, Ala. - Freshman Jessica Gelibert of the Coastal Carolina track and field team made history Saturday as she set a new school record in the 400 meter hurdles and was part of a record setting 4x400 relay. The men's and women's teams posted a number of season-best times and distances Saturday afternoon. Gelibert bested the previous school record by three one-hundredths of a second in the 400 hurdles with a fourth-place finish and a time of 58.64. The previous record holder was Ebony Brown who posted a time of 58.67 in 2006. Gelibert teamed up with sophomore Qwontajah Thompson, sophomore Camille Hurley and senior Erica Peake to post a time of 3:38.24 in the 4x400 relay while finishing third. The time bested the previous record from 2009 by over two seconds.
Junior Russel Kanner finished the 400 hurdles with the second-fastest time in school history, 52.81. He was just .64 seconds off the school record time of 52.17. The men's 4x400 team consisting of Kanner, sophomore DeAndra Lipscomb, freshman Corey Hackett-Greene and freshman Deion Wellington crossed the finish line with the fastest time at CCU since 2007, 3:13.64, and finished fourth overall.
Seniors Anjulia Nicholson and Naomi Atkins placed first and third, respectively, in the women's hammer open. Nicholson used a throw of 47.71 meters (156-06) to take the crown while Atkins had a throw of 46.46 meters (152-05).
Peake finished fifth in the women's 200 with a time of 23.51 which ranks as the second fastest this season at CCU. The men's 4x100 team also placed fifth and also posted the second-fastest time this season. Hackett-Greene, junior Ronnie Jackson, sophomore Joseph Wilson and sophomore Eric Brown teamed up to post a time of 41.20.
Q. Thompson also finished fifth in her event, the women's 400. Her time of 54.74 was the second-fastest this season. Freshman Jordan Roach posted a season-best distance of 49.90 meters (163-08) in the men's discus while finishing fifth.
Freshman Wesley Edwards tied the season-best height of 2.05 meters (6-3.75) in the men's high jump while finishing sixth. Junior Shelby Nicosia also posted a season-best in the women's 1500 with a time of 4:33.54 while finishing seventh.
Senior Jessica Dennison placed eighth in the women's 3,000 meters with a time of 10:19.92 that ranks as her personal best and second-fastest this season by a CCU student-athlete.
Wilson finished 10th in the men's 100 with a time of 10.68 which ranks second on the CCU performance list this season. Lipscomb finished 12th in the men's 400 with a season-best time of 48.26 while junior Emily Marchini also posted a season-best in the women's 800 with a time of 2:15.35 while finishing 13th.
Senior Mary Lawrence finished 15th in the pole vault with a height of 3.60 meters (11-9.75) which ranks second on the CCU performance list while Atkins placed 22nd in the women's shot put with a distance of 12.07 meters (39-7.25) which is the best throw this season by a Chanticleer. Sophomore Tyler Cummings was the final Chanticleer to post a season-best performance as he finished 36th in the men's 1500 with a time of 4:04.41.
The Chants will return to action next Saturday, April 13 as Coastal hosts the Chanticleer Classic on campus.
