Gelibert Breaks Own Conference Record in the 400 Meter Hurdles

AUBURN, Ala. - Sophomore Jessica Gelibert continues to rewrite the Big South Conference and Coastal Carolina University record books as she posted a new Big South Conference and school record in the 400 meter hurdles at the Tiger Track Classic hosted by Auburn University. The Coastal Carolina men's and women's track & field teams posted 16 new season bests while many came close to breaking school records. Gelibert broke her own record in the 400 hurdles by .76 seconds while posting a time of 57.07 and finishing second. She continues to be the only Big South Conference women's track athlete to run under 58 seconds in the 400 hurdles.

Teammate Christina Davis finished eighth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:00.98.

The men's top performers were the 4x400 squad including DeAndra Lipscomb, Alexander Hass, Deion Wellington and Stevie Brunson. The group posted the sixth fastest time in Big South Conference history at 3:10.00 which was two hundredths of a second away from tying the Coastal Carolina record set last season.  The team finished third in the race.

Senior Russel Kanner came just .37 seconds away from tying the school record in the 400 hurdles as he turned in a season best time of 52.54 while finishing third. Junior Carrington Fernandors came in eighth in the event with a time of 53.69.

Junior Joseph Keitt was within three seconds of the school mark in the 1500 meters as he finished eighth in the "invite" heat of the event with a time of 3:53.12. Cameron Wells placed sixth in the "open" portion of the 1500 with a time of 4:01.91.

Senior Shelby Nicosia came in second in the women's 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 11:00.97. The women's 4x100 squad of Ruby Durham, Kelila Naules, Teka Simpson and Symphony Thompson posted a season best time of 45.64 while placing third just behind Auburn.

Junior Camille Hurley posted a season best time of 55.00 while finishing fourth in the women's 400 meters. Senior Emily Marchini also picked up a season best and fourth place finish in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:33.42.

Junior Reggie Nelson had a pair of big performances. He finished third in the high jump with a season best height of 2.12m (6-11.50) and finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 7.09m (23-03.25). Freshman Ishmael Kamara came in 10th in the long jump with a leap of 6.83m (22-05.00).

Senior Ronnie Jackson came in fifth in the 100 meters with a season best time of 10.80 while Kevondre' Hunt placed fifth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.45.

Simpson came in sixth in the women's long jump with a season best distance of 5.67m (18-07.25). She also finished seventh in the 200 meters with a season best time of 24.15.

Marchini placed seventh in the women's 800 with a season best time of 2:12.82 while Krissy Sansbury came in seventh in the women's shot put with a season best toss of 13.47m (44-02.50). Sophomore Jalacy Green placed ninth in the shot put with a throw of 13.32m (43-08.50).

Thompson placed 10th in the women's 100 meters with a time of 12.16 while Gelibert placed 10th in the 100 hurdles with a season best time of 13.81.

The final top ten finisher was Cameron Griggs who finished 10th in the men's shot put with a season best distance of 15.20m (49-10.50).

The Chanticleers will return to action this Saturday as they host the Chanticleer Classic on the campus of Coastal Carolina University.
