Coastal Sets Multiple New Personal Bests at VertKlasse Meeting
HIGH POINT, N.C. - On the second day of competition in the VertKlasse Meeting at High Point University, Coastal's Zach Bolton set a new personal best in the men's hammer, finishing eighth in his flight and 21st overall with a throw of 49.59m (162-8).
The sophomore's 43.61m (143-1) throw in the men's discus was also a new personal-best. In that event, he finished fifth in his flight and 21st overall.
Coastal Carolina's men's and women's track teams had impressive showings elsewhere at the meet, as Aynslee van Graan won her section and finished eighth overall in the women's 800-meter race, crossing the finish line at 2:13.33.
Van Graan, who was named Big South Conference Athlete of the Week on March 30, set a new season-best time in the event.
In other action, Cari Pallini set a new personal-best mark in the women's discus, finishing 10th overall with a throw of 42.49m (139-5).
Coastal also had a top 10 finish in the women's hammer, as Samantha Layko placed eighth with a mark of 50.81m (166-8).
The VertKlasse Meeting is a European-style meet that features a small number of elite competitors, which makes for a fast-moving, exciting weekend of action. Throughout the weekend, Coastal held its own with high-level athletes from across the country, including club and university teams.
Next weekend, the Chants travel to Greenville, N.C., for the Bill Carson Invitational. Action is set for April 8 and 9 at East Carolina University.
