MYRTLE BEACH - The Coastal Carolina men's and women's track and field teams began competition in the CCU/Shamrock Invitational on Thursday at Doug Shaw Stadium.
The primary focus on Thursday's first day was the women's heptathlon and men's decathlon. However, several other events were held as well.
Ryan Minor placed fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 56.92 meters (186-09), topping his distance from last week.
In the decathlon, Nick Seabright posted three top-10 finishes, led by a fourth-place spot in the 400 meters with a time of 51.21. He also was seventh in the 100 meters in 11.52 and eighth in the long jump with a mark of 6.20 meters (20-4.25).
For the Chanticleers' women's team, Olivia Coopwood and Anna Carnegie each notched a pair of top-five finishes in heptathlon events. Coopwood was runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.15 and also placed third in the 200 meters in a time of 25.95. Carnegie took fifth place in the 200 in 26.19 and also fifth in the shot put with a throw of 10.34 meters (33-11.25).
The meet continues tomorrow as decathlon and heptathlon events resume beginning at 9 a.m. The Amber Campbell Invitational women's hammer throw will be held at 11:30 a.m. and the day's track events get under way at 10 a.m. with the 1,500 meters.
