Coastal Finishes Strong at Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational XX

MYRTLE BEACH - Coastal Carolina's men's and women's track teams finished the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational XX strong, notching multiple first-place honors and top 10 finishes.

The Chants had three top 10 finishers in the men's 110-meter hurdles, including Desmond Wallace, who had a first-place finish with a season-best time of 13.87. Coastal's Kevondre' Hunt placed sixth (14.58) and Dee Jennings finished seventh (14.81) in the event.

The Chants had a solid showing in the seeded men's 400-meter hurdles, as Jerome Coaxum Jr. finished eighth with a time of 53.56 and Tre Stanley place ninth with a mark of 53.75. Coastal cruised in other action in the field, as Zach Bolton delivered a fourth-place finish and set a new Coastal Carolina school record in the men's shot put with a throw of 16.33m (53-07.00).

Coastal had two athletes place in the top five in the men's pole vault, as Zachary Connell came in second with a mark of 4.30m (14-01.25) and Alex Botello tied North Dakota's Jace Kruger for third with a launch of 4.15m (13-07.25). Brandon Richardson dominated in the men's high jump seeded, continuing his solid season with a jump of 2.00m (6-06.75), which was good for 10th place.

Brinson Corn placed ninth in the men's seeded pole vault with a launch of 4.30m (14-01.25). Also, Derrick Kinloch finished seventh in the men's triple jump, delivering a mark of 14.69m (48-02.50). On the women's side of the triple jump, Coastal's Amirah Al-Bayyinah soared to a fourth-place finish with a score of 12.18m (39-11.50).

In other action, Coastal's team of Teka Simpson, Karissa Lunn, Anacia Hines and Kelila Naules placed sixth in the women's 4x100-meter relay with a time of 46.66. On the men's side of the 4x100-meter relay, Coastal's team of Kahlim Denmark, Chiason Tenkiang, Ryan McCain and Therius Styles finished fifth with an impressive mark of 40.78.

Denmark set a new personal-best mark and placed third in the finals of the men's seeded 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 21.47. Devontaye Edwards had a fourth-place finish and set a new personal-best mark in the men's discus, throwing for 52.00m (170-07). In the women's javelin, Chloe White scored a sixth-place finish with a throw of 42.18m (138-05).

Additionally, Braylon Wilkerson placed eighth in the seeded men's 400-meter dash with a run of 48.20. In the men's high jump, Richard Finch IV placed 10th with a mark of 1.80m (5-10.75). Elsewhere, Coastal had two top 10 finishers in the seeded women's 800-meter run, with Aynslee van Graan placing sixth (2:13.93) and Imani Boatwright taking tenth with a time of 2:14.67.

In the women's 1-mile run seeded, Kyla van Graan finished fourth with a time of 5:01.74. Coastal's team of Coaxum, Stanley, Jennings and Braylon Wilkerson capped the afternoon with a fifth-place finish in the men's 4x400-meter relay, notching a time of 3:16.70.

Coastal also placed high in the Mayor's Relay Cup, as the men's team placed fifth with 11 points and the women's team (six points) finished tied for seventh.

The Chants travel to Raleigh, N.C., next weekend for the Raleigh Relays. Action is set for March 25 and 26 at North Carolina State University.
