Coastal Starts Strong at Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational XX
MYRTLE BEACH - Coastal Carolina's men's and women's track teams had a strong showing in the first day of the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational XX at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, with multiple Chanticleers finishing in the top 20 in their respective competitions.
Day One of the invitational featured the women's heptathlon, men's decathlon, men's hammer throw, as well as the men's and women's 10000-meter run. Coastal's student-athletes impressed with solid performances in several of the aforementioned events.
In the men's hammer, Ryan Minor finished fourth with a throw of 58.90 (193'03"). Elsewhere in the event, Coastal's Zach Bolton placed 16th (48.53m, 159'03") and Kieran Moore was 18th with a throw of 45.22m (148'04").
Additionally, Nick Seabright had an impressive day in the decathlon, finishing fourth overall (3,426 points) after five events. He placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.60m (21'08.00"), fourth in the men's 400-meter dash with a time of 51.01, and sixth in the high jump with a mark of 1.82m (5'11.50"). Seabright also had a solid showing in the shot put, finishing sixth with a throw of 10.35m (33'11.50").
In other action, Coastal assistant cross country and track & field coach Zola Pieterse won the women's 10000-meter run with a time of 38:38.35, outpacing the second-place finisher by more than 30 seconds.
The meet continues tomorrow with decathlon and heptathlon events beginning at 9 a.m. Friday's action also includes the Amber Campbell Invitational women's hammer throw, which will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tomorrow's track events get under way at 12:30 p.m. with the women's 1-mile run.
