Coastal Wraps Up Competition at the CCU Invitational

CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina men’s and women’s track & field teams closed out the final day of the CCU Invitational with 23 top ten finishes. Three second place finishes highlighted the day including freshman Ishmael Kamara in the triple jump, senior Ryan Beckley in the 800 and junior Reggie Nelson in the high jump.

Kamara jumped a distance of 14.81m (48-7.25) to best most of the competition. His teammate senior JaDarrell Barnette came in eighth in the event with a leap of 14.32m (46-11.75). Beckley finished with a time of 1:55.49 in the 800 while Nelson tied for second in the high jump with a height of 2.0m (6-6.75).

CCU had five third place finishes. Junior Christal Green came in third in the 200m with a time of 24.30. Her teammate sophomore Kelila Naules followed closely behind for a ninth place finish and a time of 25.35. Freshman Leah Fair came in third in the 400m with a time of 57.12 while freshman Imani Boatwright placed seventh in a time of 58.53.

Newcomer Alexander Hass came in third in the men’s 400m with a time of 48.56 while teammate and senior Stevie Brunson placed 10th with a time of 49.57.

Teammates Camille Hurley and Ashely Davis came in third and fourth in the women’s 100m hurdles. Hurley crossed the line in 14.03 while Davis came across at 14.09.

The final third place finisher was freshman Kevondre' Hunt who took the bronze in the men’s 110m hurdles. He crossed the line at 14.58 while teammate Carrington Fernandors finished fifth with a time of 14.81.

Three women faired well in the 100m as Teka Simpson, Ruby Durham and Symphony Thompson came across fourth, fifth and seventh, respectively. Simpson had a time of 11.97 while Durham crossed the line in 12.08 and Thompson came in at 12.09.

Keegan Woodson and Veneshia Holmes came in fourth and fifth in the triple jump. Woodson had a distance of 11.44m (37-6.50) while Holmes touched down at 11.34m (37-2.50).

Junior DeAndra Lipscomb placed sixth in the men’s 200m. He had a time of 21.79. Sophomore Brinson Corn tied for sixth in the men’s pole vault with a height of 4.30m (14-1.25).

The final two top ten finishers were senior Cameron Griggs in the discus and freshman Krissy Sansbury in the shot put. Griggs had a toss of 44.67m (146-07) while Sansbury’s throw measured at 12.98m (42-7.0).

The Chanticleers will be back in action this weekend, March 20-22 as they host the Shamrock Invitational at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach.
