Chants in Good Position After Day One at Coach O Coastal Invitational

MYRTLE BEACH - Coastal Carolina's men's and women's track teams had a strong showing in the first day of the Coach O Coastal Carolina Invitational at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, with multiple Chanticleers finishing atop the charts in their respective competitions.

The Chanticleers had top finishers in three events, including first-place marks in both track and field events. Coastal also had multiple athletes notch top 10 finishes in their respective competitions.

Senior throws competitor Ryan Minor followed up on his solid performance in last weekend's Battle of the Beaches with a first-place finish in the hammer, edging the competition with a mark of 58.86m (193'01").

The Chanticleers also had the top two finishers in the men's 4x200-meter relay run, with the team of Jerome Coaxum, Braylon Wilkerson, Deion Wellington and D'Andre Fletcher reigning supreme with a time of 1:25.92. Coastal's team of Ryan McCain, Malcolm Simmons, Gabe Gittens and Chiason Tenkiang finished second in the 4x200-meter relay with a mark of 1:27.61.

Additionally, Cody Wilde finished fifth in the javelin with a throw of 52.26m (171'05"). In other action, Rachel Byrd took second in the women's 5000-meter run with a time of 18:44.20, and Emma Kroger had a second-place finish in the women's seeded pole vault (3.50m, 11'5.75").

Elsewhere, Samantha Layko had a strong showing in her Coastal Carolina debut in the women's hammer, taking third place with a throw of 52.76m (173'01"). In the seeded women's long jump, Kelila Naules finished fifth with a jump of 5.31m (17'5.25"), in a wind of 0.7.
