CHARLESTON - The Coastal Carolina men's track & field team headed south to compete at the Palmetto Classic in Charleston, S.C. The Chanticleers battled inclement weather throughout the day and 40-degree temperatures but managed to pick up a pair of first place finishes despite competing in just four events. All the jumpers were forced to withdraw from the competition due to the conditions.
Seniors Ryan Beckley and Cameron Griggs led the Chants on the day. Beckley picked up a win in the 800 with a time of 2:00.22 while Griggs won the discus with a toss of 44.53m (146-01). Griggs also placed third in the hammer throw with a distance of 55.96m (183-07).
Sophomore Ryan Minor placed second in the hammer with a throw of 56.38m (185-00). CCU's other highlight included three top-five finishes in the mile. Junior Joseph Kiett came in second in the mile with a time of 4:29.38 while senior Cameron Wells and junior Evan Niciphor came in fourth and fifth, respectively. Wells clocked a time of 4:31.99 while Niciphor crossed the line at 4:34.90.
Coastal will return to action next Friday and Saturday as the Chants host the CCU Invitational at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach.
