COLUMBIA - Throwers for the Coastal Carolina women's indoor track team competed at the Gamecock Invitational on Saturday and freshman Krissy Sansbury won the weight throw competition.
Sansbury recorded a distance of 16.29 meters (53-5.50) with her first throw in the event and the mark held up to be the best, more than a meter further than second place. It is Sansbury's first career win.
Coastal teammate and redshirt senior Naomi Atkins placed third in the event with a throw of throw 14.71 meters (48-3.25) on her fifth attempt. Freshman Cari Pallini set a new personal-best and placed eighth with a mark of 13.22 meters (43-4.50).
Also in the meet, Jalacy Green took runner-up honors in the shot put with a throw of 12.84 meters (42-1.50) on her final attempt. It was her highest finish of the season and she was second only to South Carolina's Kaysee Sullivan (13.15 meters) at the meet.
Sansbury made it two top-five finishes on the day as she placed fourth in the event, notching a mark of 12.30 meters (40-4.25). She now has four total top-fives on the season. Pallini finished 12th (11.03 meters).
The limited event meet was the final tuneup for the Chanticleers before next week's Big South Championships. The meet will be held Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1 with Coastal looking to repeat as champion.
