WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Coastal Carolina's 4x400 relay team claimed first place to highlight the women's indoor track & field squad's performance during Saturday's final day of the Hilton Garden Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The Chanticleers' quartet of Jessica Gelibert, Qwontajah Thompson, Camille Hurley and Erica Peake turned in a time of 3:50.48 on the flat track to best a 32-team field in the final event of the day. Second-place Appalachian State finished more than two seconds behind in 3:52.99. It the first win of the season for a Coastal 4x400 relay team, which previously posted two runner-up finishes.

Coastal's second squad in the event, comprising Sharmaine Barnes, Teka Simpson, Anna Carnegie and Christina Davis won their section and finished sixth overall in a time of 3:57.97.

For the third time in as many meets, Peake placed third in the long jump, this time recording a mark of 5.73 meters (18-9.75). Carnegie finished seventh and set a new personal-best of 5.39 meters (17-8.25).

Coastal placed three in the top six finishers of the 60-meter hurdles, with Gelibert leading the way in a time of 8.66 to place fourth. Hurley was fifth with a personal-best 8.81 and Ashley Davis took sixth in 8.94.

Emily Marchini notched two top-10 finishes during the day, including a fourth-place spot in the 800 meters in a time of 2:18.34. The time was a personal best, edging her time from the previous weekend by .01 seconds. Marchini also placed 10th in the mile run with a time of 5:08.81.

Thompson notched a seventh-place finish among a field of 92 competitors in the 200 meters, finishing in 25.34. Simpson cleared 1.63 meters (5-4.25) in the high jump to place in a tie for 10th.

The top performance for the Coastal men's team was by senior Reggie Nelson, who took third in the high jump, clearing 2.03 meters (6-8.0). Sophomore Ryan Minor placed fourth in the shot put (51-3.5), freshman Brinson Corn tied for fourth in the pole vault (12-11.50) and senior Joseph Wilson finished fifth in 200 meters (22.41). The 4x400 relay team of Deion Wellington, Wilson, Matthew Lights and DeAndra Lipscomb took fourth place with a time of 3:23.77.

The Chanticleer women return to action Friday, Feb. 8 at the Clemson Tiger Paw.
