Chants End VT Invitational With Three More Top-Five Finishes
BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Coastal Carolina women's indoor track and field team picked up three more top-five finishes on the second and final day of the Virginia Tech Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Takeyra Jenkins-Dodd represented the Chants in the 400 meters finishing with a time of 1:02.23 placing fourth in her heat.
Jackie Brengel claimed her first top-five finish of the weekend in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:59.00. Also Rachel Byrd placed in the top-five with fifth place finish clocking a time of 19:41.01.
In the field performaces, the Chants were unable to take any top-five finishes but made strong progressions leading into next weekends meet. Raven Hamilton placed seventh in the high jump with her best jump at 1.58 meters (5-2 ¼). Also for the Chants, Emma Kroger represented in the pole vault event with her best jump at 3.52 meters. Rounding out the field events for Coastal was Veneshia Holmes in the triple jump with her best mark at 11.12 meters (36-5 ¾).
Also just outside the top 10 for Coastal was Teka Simpson, who took 11th in the 200 by clocking 25.36. Jonnay Anthony (26.10), Anacia Hines (26.17) and TeeAsiah Vance (26.17) rounded out the times for the Chants in the 200 meters.
Coastal returns to Blacksburg, Va. next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22 and 23, at the Hokie Invitational hosted by Virginia Tech. The Chanticleer men will also be in action in the meet.
