Coastal Carolina will hold cheerleading tryouts April 19-20
Megan Johnson was named head cheerleading coach at Coastal Carolina University in 2012. She is responsible for the university's Spirit Squads, which comprise the Chanticleer Cheerleading team and the university's mascot, Chauncey.
The Spirit Squads work to build and maintain school spirit, primarily by performing at football, men's basketball and women's basketball, as well as at other athletic events, and through select outside events on behalf of the University. Collectively and individually, these groups serve to provide exemplary public relations and customer service as ambassadors for the Department of Athletics and Coastal Carolina University. The Spirit Squads also host clinics at the high school, junior high, and elementary school levels to promote their respective activities and develop skills. The Spirit Squads compete at the national and regional levels at UCA/UDA-sponsored competitions.
Johnson served as the assistant cheerleading coach at Coastal since 2011. She has previous coaching experience in gymnastics and cheerleading and she has coached tumbling and cheerleading for the Horry County Schools since 2005.
Johnson holds certification from the American Association of Cheerleaders, Coaches and Advisors (AACCA).
She earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science from the University of South Carolina in 2004.
Johnson is originally from Conway, S.C.
