Cheerleaders welcome back Alumni

Elizabeth Appenzeller is in herthird year as the head cheerleading coach at Coastal Carolina University.

Appenzeller comes to Coastal Carolina after being the assistant cheerleading coach at Wingate University in Wingate, N.C. While at Wingate, she helped facilitate practices, tryouts and tumbling lessons. She was the head cheerleading coach and spirit liaison at Greensboro College in Greensboro, N.C., from 2006-08. Appenzeller not only managed the cheerleading team and mascots at Greensboro, but also organized fundraising and community service opportunities, managed the budget, created football and basketball game scripts and coordinated promotional activities as well as game day and halftime entertainment. Prior to Greensboro College,she was the assistant coach at High Point University in High Point, N.C., from 2005-06, where she managed mascot appearances, created a recruiting database and helped facilitate practices and tryouts.

Appenzeller also has worked at the Sport Management Group in Greensboro, N.C., starting in 2005 and was the cheerleading director at the Spears Family YMCA in Greensboro. She is certified by the Certified American Association of Cheerleaders, Coaches and Advisors (AACCA), the Certified National Council for Spirit Safety and Education (NCSSE) and the Cheer Ltd. National Cheer Judges Certification.

Appenzeller has a bachelor's degree in history and criminal justice from Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C., and has a Master's of Science in sport studies from High Point. She also attended Barry University School of Law in Orlando, Fla.

Appenzeller was a cheerleader at Guilford as well as being on the women's tennis and women's soccer teams. She also was the co-author of Cheerleading and the Law: Risk Management Strategies for Cheerleading.
