    Warren D. "Moose" Koegel is starting his ninth year as the Director of Athletics at Coastal Carolina University. Koegel, the Chanticleers' fifth Athletic Director since 1986, was appointed on October 6, 2000.

    In Koegel's years at the helm of the Coastal Carolina Athletic Department, the Chanticleers have flourished both on and off the fields of play. In his tenure to date, Coastal Carolina has been represented in NCAA Championships inmen's soccer, men's and women's cross country, women's tennis, men's golf, women's golf, softball, baseball, women's indoor track and field, and men's and women's outdoor track and field. The Chanticleers also have won the prestigious George F. "Buddy" Sasser Cup five times, including their fourth consecutive award in 2006-07, awarded annually to the top athletic department in the Big South Conference.

    Koegel played in the National Football League from 1971 to 1976, spending time with the Oakland Raiders, St. Louis Cardinals and New York Jets. He starred at Penn State University under legendary football coach Joe Paterno. He was co-captain of the Nittany Lions his senior season and earned a bachelor's degree in 1971. During his college career, he was a Third Team All-American as a senior and played on two Orange Bowl champion teams. He also played in the Hula Bowl, East-West Shrine Game and the College All-State Game. Koegel received Penn State's Dedicated Player and Outstanding Senior Awards.
