The new facility is scheduled to officially open concurrent with CCU's fall semester on Aug. 20.
Mark Roach is in his sixth year as the Senior Associate Athletics Director at Coastal Carolina University.
Roach came to Coastal Carolina in May 2003 after serving as the Athletics Director for the Horry County Schools for the previous five years. He was named to that position after spending one year as the Athletics Director at Carolina Forest High School.
Prior to that, the 47-year-old Roach served as the head baseball coach at Socastee High School for three years. He also was the head baseball coach at Sumter High School from 1986-94. There, he led his team to the Lower State finals in 1992 and the State Championship game in 1993. He was named the South Carolina AAAA Coach of the Year in 1993, as his team was ranked sixth in the nation by USA Today, while his final squad in 1994 opened the year ranked 19th in the country.
Born in Duluth, Georgia, Roach earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from Coastal Carolina in 1984, playing on the 1982-83 basketball and 1983 baseball squads. He later earned his master's degree in sports administration from the U.S. Sports Academy in 1994. Before that, he graduated from Peachtree (GA) High School in 1978, where he played baseball, football and basketball.
Roach and his wife, Mary Beth, reside in Conway with their son Brandon (19) and daughter Casey (17).
