CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina University Department of Athletics has enjoyed a great fall season on the playing fields. However, the Department's primary goal was achieved this past weekend as 21 Chanticleers, along with two Masters' candidates, had their degrees conferred.

Five Chanticleers graduated with honors, including women's golfer Brittany Henderson (magna cum laude in management), football's Niccolo Mastromatteo (magna cum laude in philosophy), volleyball's Lauren Alejo (magna cum laude in biology), football's Jeffery Salley (cum laude in computer science) and women's soccer's Megan Spencer (cum laude in marine science).

Henderson was a 2013 Academic All-America, the Big South Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the back-to-back Big South Individual Champion (2012 and '13). Mastromatteo was named a National Football Foundation National Scholar-Athlete - earning an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship - and is the Big South all-time leader in punt returns and punt return yards. He is just the second Big South student-athlete to win five All-Big South honors (four as a punt returner and one as a receiver) while ranking fifth on the CCU career list for receptions. Alejo was a three-time Academic All-Big South selection and closed her career by earning second team All-Big South honors. Salley started 34 games in his career, including each of his last 28 and was voted the team's defensive MVP by the coaches on two occasions this season. Spencer started in goal for each of the last 39 matches, ranking second in the Big South with seven shutouts in 2013 while adding six shutouts in 2012.

In addition, former golfer Ty Wengel and 2012 first team All-Big South football lineman Pat Williams each received their Master of Business Administration.
