CONWAY - As part of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's holiday food drive, members of Coastal Carolina athletic teams visited Pee Dee Elementary Monday afternoon to deliver meals to children and their families for Thanksgiving.
In order to better assist the community, SAAC members voted to alter the holiday food drive competition they have held in the past, instead choosing to have each of the 18 Chanticleer athletic programs donate full meals. However, a total of 25 complete uncooked meals were actually put together and delivered on Monday, with the extra seven meals to be dispersed to other students and their families by the elementary school in the coming days.
After transporting the food to the school, members of Coastal Carolina's baseball, football, men's golf, lacrosse, softball, volleyball, and track and field teams, along with Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek, spent time interacting with the respective families and assisting them in collecting their meals.
"I'm very proud of the student-athletes, coaches, and administrators who assisted in supplying Thanksgiving meals to the families of Pee Dee Elementary," said Associate AD for Student Enhancement and Senior Women's Administrator Cari Rosiek. "It is a true testament of our commitment to produce Champions For Life as we remain eager to aid the community.
SAAC and the Department of Athletics are planning to hold the fourth "Adopt-A-Chant" campaign next month to provide items to families for Christmas.
