CONWAY - The Coastal Carolina Department of Athletics recently completed its second annual Chants for Kids School Supply Drive, collecting approximately $2,000 worth of essential supplies for students at Pee Dee Elementary.

Department of Athletics staff members and Coastal student-athletes combined in donating to the drive, which ran from August 20 to September 7. Among the items collected were pencils, crayons, markers, paper, notebooks, glue sticks, hand sanitizer and book bags.

The drive was part of the department's continued partnership with Pee Dee Elementary, which was adopted by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee beginning with the 2011-12 academic year. Members of several Coastal athletic teams have previously volunteered their time to visit the Conway school for mentoring efforts. In addition, SAAC helped raise money and collect Christmas items for six families in need last year and also donated $1,500 to the school for its Field Day.

"The administration, coaches and student-athletes of the Department of Athletics is pleased to assist our community by supplying much needed school supplies to Pee Dee Elementary," said Associate AD for Student Enhancement and Senior Women's Administrator Cari Rosiek. "We are grateful for the opportunity to provide our community with charitable service as we develop Champions For Life. Members of the community may request our services by completing the Chants in the Community Request Form.

Rosiek said planning for this year's Christmas drive will begin soon.
