The new Coastal Carolina Student Recreation and Convocation Center will be a 130,000-square-foot facility that will become the home of the Chanticleer basketball and volleyball programs. The $35 million project is slated to open in 2012. When configured for a sporting event, the Convocation Center will be able to seat more than 3,600 people, more than quadrupling the capacity of Kimbel Arena. This new facility will allow Coastal Carolina programs to be more competitive at the highest level, recruit the highest caliber student athletes and allow the Chanticleers to showcase their beautiful University and surrounding region.

The facility will house offices, locker rooms and team meeting rooms for the men's and women's basketball and volleyball programs.

In addition, the facility will include a dual use space that will be suitable for expanded intramural sports and fitness/recreation activities for the University's more than 8,700 students. The University Bookstore and a juice bar/concession area will also be housed in the new building.

The Student Recreation Center section of the facility will include an indoor running track, climbing wall, multipurpose rooms, weight area, cardiovascular areas and locker rooms.
